Eligibility 

• The applicant should be either a:
• Remote employee of a company outside of the Portuguese territory for at least 1 year
• Digital entrepreneur
  
• Applicant’s salary* should be min EUR 3280 (4 times the minimum wage in force in Portugal) + EUR 400 per adult dependent (50% of the minimum wage in force) + EUR 230 per child dependent (30% of the minimum wage)

*monthly salary for the last 3 months

4 to 8 months on average*

Important Information

• Visa valid for 1 year
• Should be requested in a Portuguese Consulate/Embassy in the country of residence. 
• The worker cannot be issued a local contract based on this visa.
  

Step by step process

Step 1: Initial Assessment (2-5 working days)
The VP Mobility team performs a full eligibility assessment once all documents are received. 

Step 2: Preparing the Application (2-8 weeks)
The VPl Mobility team gathers the personal documents from the employee and prepares them in case specific processes are required (legalization, apostille and translations).

Step 3: Submit Application for Processing (1-6 months*)
The application is submitted to Portuguese authorities.
*depending on authorities’ availability 

Step 4: Processing by Authorities (1-3 months)
This timeline can be expanded by authorities without any previous warnings.
Authorities can also require further documents on their own discretion. 

Step 5: Travel to Portugal (up to 3 months)
Visas are usually valid for 120 days with double entrance.

Step 6: Residence Card appointment (3-8 months*) 
Depending on the authority’s availability.

Step 7: Residence Card issuance (1-3 months)
Depending on authorities' availability. 

*Portuguese authorities are currently facing huge backlogs and delays are expected

Documents required

1. Valid passport
2. Proof of legal residence (if not citizen of the country where the Visa is going to be requested)
3. Own company bylaws, if self-employed
4. Proof of income (at least 3 payslips or Bank Statements) or any other proof of economic means
5. Proof that the work activity can be carried out entirely remotely
6. Document confirming fiscal residency 
7. Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), duly apostilled/legalized 
8. Proof of health insurance with Portugal coverage
9. Proof of accommodation in Portugal
10. Flight tickets return booking 

Important Information

* All documents, if not in Portuguese must be duly translated to Portuguese. English might be also accepted, depending on the Consulate/Embassy.
